John Mayer is a watch guy. He also happens to be a music guy.
What do you get when the two intersect? The Casio G–SHOCK Ref. 6900 by John Mayer, a digital watch you know and love, designed by Mr. Mayer himself.
This 6900 is inspired by the Casiotone SK-5 sampling keyboard that Mayer played as a skinny kid growing up in Fairfield, CT. You may recognize the 6900 as one of the most iconic Casio G-SHOCKS currently in production (for reference, it is the best-selling series in Japan and the third best-selling G-SHOCK globally). It was first launched in 1995 and is revered as the reference that put G-SHOCK on the fashion and streetwear map. We love it because it’s both fashionable and functional with six different complications.
So how did Mayer land on this design and why did he choose this watch? Well, we asked him. Here’s what he had to say.
